Aga Ujma and Sasando

Aga Ujma is a singer, multi-instrumentalist and composer born in Poland. She began her music career with obtaining a degree in classical piano performance and studying musicology in her homeland, after which she moved to Central Java, Indonesia, to study traditional Javanese singing, music and composition at the Institute of Indonesian Arts in Surakarta. In Indonesia she became a member of numerous music collectives for which she sang and composed. She also began to perform as solo artist, focusing on creating a fusion between Polish folk and Indonesian music traditions and instruments, mainly East Indonesian sasando, Javanese siter and gender barung. Currently she is studying Music Performance at SOAS University of London and performing with Southbank Gamelan Players.
