Javanese Gamelan. This year Jagat Jawa brings modern and unique versions of “Manyar Sewu” (A Thousand Weaverbirds”) from an arrangement by Ki Sukisno, a reinvention of the classic “Jangkrik Genggong” and the raucous children’s song, “Sluku Sluku Bathok” - so get ready to join in with the fun! In 2019 Jagat Jawa have been busy playing at The Thurrock International Celebration of Culture, Richard House Children’s Hospice Summer Party and the Mayor of Barking and Dagenham’s Charity Garden Party at Eastbury Manor House. They have also collaborated with Thurrock Choral Society and performed at their Summer Concert. Formed in 2010, Jagat initially had 10 youth members aged between 9 and 14. Jagat has since become a gamelan group of all ages from as young as 7 to as mature as having a free travel ticket holders and in 2015 its active memberships has more than tripled. |
